Synopsis

Following a public, anxiety-induced breakdown that ruins her career, master cellist Clara retreats to 'The Monolith'—an isolated concrete estate built in the 1970s by an eccentric, long-dead architect obsessed with "pure resonance." As Clara attempts to rebuild her relationship with music, she becomes obsessed with a persistent, low-frequency hum vibrating through the villa’s raw concrete walls. The hum isn’t a structural defect; it is a composition.

As she begins to play in harmony with the house, Clara’s body begins to undergo a terrifying, transcendent metamorphosis: her skin hardens like cured sprucewood, her tendons tighten like steel strings, and her bones begin to echo. It is a cold, tactile psychological thriller that explores the violent intersection of ambition, grief, and physical resonance—a story of a woman who stops playing music and decides, instead, to become it.

Visual Language & Influences

The film’s visual canvas is built on high-contrast, anamorphic 35mm film, emphasizing the brutalist, geometric symmetry of the architecture against the organic, fragile curves of the human body. The color palette is sterile and muted—cool concrete grays, deep forest greens, and clinical whites—punctuated by the warm, violent amber of aging cello varnish and raw brass. We draw atmospheric inspiration from the architectural claustrophobia of Ex Machina, the physical, somatic terror of David Cronenberg’s Crash, and the quiet, grief-stricken cinematic poetry of Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun. Sound design is our primary weapon: a visceral, sub-bass-heavy soundscape designed by Mica Levi, where the line between the film's score and the physical environment is entirely erased.
