Candles for the people who never log off.
Slowburn makes candles for the small rituals that hold a long week together — the first sip, the last send, the slow walk back to yourself. Pour one. Light one. Let something else burn for a while.
A candle is a tiny ceremony.
We don't sell candles to make your house smell nice. We sell them to mark the moments you keep forgetting to have.
Mark the moment
Pick the ritual you're in — pre-standup, post-standup, the 3pm abyss. There's a scent for that.
Light it on purpose
Not as background. As the event. The flame is the point. Everything else is scenery.
Let it burn
Fifty-five hours of slow, deliberate fire. Refill the jar when it's done. Begin again on Monday.
The ones people come back for.
"We started Slowburn because we kept lighting birthday candles at our desks and calling it a ritual. We figured we should make better ones."
— Mara & Theo, founders
The Catalog
Fourteen scents, each named for a moment you've lived through at a desk. Filter by ritual, sort to your taste.
Our rituals
Slowburn began on a Tuesday, at 11:47pm, in a studio above a laundromat.
We were two people who worked too much, lighting a candle someone had given us because we'd forgotten to eat dinner. The room changed. We didn't solve anything. But for the length of that wick, the urgency was somebody else's.
That was the whole idea. Not aromatherapy. Not self-care. Just a small, deliberate fire that asks nothing of you except that you notice it.
What we make
Every Slowburn candle is hand-poured in small batches from a coconut-soy wax blend, with cotton wicks and fragrance oils free of phthalates and parabens. Each one burns roughly fifty-five hours if you trim the wick and don't rush it. The jars are refillable — send them back, or keep them for pens, buttons, and the smallChange of desk life.
What we believe
Slow is a feature
A candle can't be optimized. That's the entire point of it.
Mark the small things
The first coffee. The last send. These are worth a flame.
Leave less behind
Refillable jars, carbon-neutral shipping, no throwaway packaging.
Where we pour
A 900-square-foot studio in Portland, Oregon, above the aforementioned laundromat, which is convenient because wax is washable and we are clumsy. We ship everywhere in the contiguous United States.
